Our school’s recent Navratri celebration went beyond simple festivity. It offered a meaningful lesson through lively performances that captured the spirit of Shakti , the limitless energy of the universe. The event effectively conveyed the festival’s significance by focusing on fundamental spiritual and scientific truths.
The program began with a thoughtful question: Why do we chant “Vakratunda Mahakaya”? The answer linked ancient wisdom to modern science. Shakti represents Urja (Energy), an essence that is neither created nor destroyed. The goal of Navratri is to awaken this powerful, inherent energy within ourselves.
To facilitate this powerful process, we call on Lord Ganesha, the Mangalmurti. His presence ensures the path to spiritual awakening remains clear. This invocation was followed by a beautiful classical dance performance of the Ganesh Vandana, a
captivating tribute to the remover of obstacles. Next, the focus shifted to the deeper meaning of the Maharas. A mysterious figure,
Shambhunath (suggesting Lord Shiva’s presence), revealed the profound identity of Krishna: “Karshata akarshayeti iti Krishnah”—the one who irresistibly draws everyone toward Himself.
During this part, the students performed a stunning Maharas sequence set to the heartfelt song “Kanha Re Thora Sa Pyar De.” Their expression of love captivated the entire audience. The central message was that the Gopis attained the highest bliss of love through pure and unwavering longing, showing that the greatest divine power is linked to devotion.
The performance reached a peak of spiritual energy. Grade 4 students sang the touching “Aarti Durge Durgat Bhari,” which was followed by a spirited Devi Yedeshwari Palkhi dance. This thrilling section left everyone feeling “charged up” by the strong divine energy.
The key lesson was the social responsibility that comes with this awakened energy and to direct it toward creating a better society. This message highlighted that all
challenges can be overcome with the nurturing strength of Maa Durga when faced with courage and purpose.
The evening moved into a lively celebration. It featured a heartfelt version of the devotional song “Ambe Kirpa Kari” and a dynamic, surprise garba performance by the teachers. The night wrapped up with an open Garba Masti, where the entire dance floor reflected the collective divine awakening. The most enthusiastic participants received Best Performer awards for both male and female categories.
The celebration started with the introspection needed to access our inner power and concluded with the joyful expression of that power. This Navratri served as a strong reminder that our greatest force, Shakti, is always present; it simply awaits the discipline of Ganesha and the pure love found in Krishna’s Maharas.
